Weather Forecast for 1st and 2nd March 2018

27 February 2018 (by admin)

Please note the details below regarding the current forecast for severe weather.

In anticipation of deteriorating weather this week, please can I remind you to stick to gritted paths in the morning if it is icy, and to ensure that all children come to school appropriately clothed with a warm, waterproof coat, hat, gloves etc (all named please!). In snow and ice the following pedestrian paths are salted: • The paths running from main access gates at the front of the building to the main front door. • The path running from the rear car park to the school buildings. Children are advised not to run, and will be kept off untreated areas if they are assessed as hazardous. The weather forecast is suggesting that we will have snow in our area overnight on Thursday 1st March 2018. It is my intention to keep the school open if that is possible. However, in the event of severe weather preventing staff from traveling to school, it may be necessary to close the school, have a late opening or partially open in some year groups. In this event, Spire FM Radio will broadcast information. Unless there is an announcement that we are closed, you can assume that the school will be open at the normal time. Spire FM will also be informed should the school close for any other reason e.g. heating failure, power-cuts etc. and a message will be posted on the ‘Home’ page of our school website ( Please note that although weather may not be poor in Old Sarum, many of our staff travel considerable distance to school and may not find it safe to travel. I will endeavour to do this as early as possible, after seeking advice, and to inform the radio station promptly – please be patient! If children are in school and it is snowing/ has been snowing they will be allowed out onto the playground and field as long as they: • Observe the safety rule of not throwing snowballs • Have appropriate clothing and footwear - please send in their wellington boots if snowy
