Parent Information for new Reception pupils JOINING THE SCHOOL IN SeptEMBER 2020
Welcome to Old Sarum Primary School!
We are so pleased that you have chosen to come to Old Sarum Primary School and we can’t wait to meet you all. We hope that you are all having fun in the sunshine and keeping safe. I am sure that your nurseries have provided support with activities to do at home. Some of the most important things to help prepare your child for school are:
- Developing their independent skills (putting on own clothes, going to the toilet by themselves and wiping their own bottoms)
- Communication - talking about what they are doing and asking questions
- Playing games and learning to take turns and using their imagination in their play.
- We all love to share stories and this is a valuable skill for children to learn to sit and listen to them and then answer simple questions about the story.
- Encouraging children to sing nursery rhymes and getting them to hear the words that rhyme is also a fun and beneficial activity.
We just want to reassure you at this time of uncertainty that we won’t forget you and will give you as much support as any other year.
It is normally during the summer term that we start carrying out the transition period for your child. We would go and visit your children in their nurseries to speak to their key workers and find out about them. If we are unable to do this, then rest assured we will call your nurseries and speak to them over the phone to gain this valuable information. We always carry out our home visits in September so that we get to meet you before you start in the comfort of your home and if government guidance allows, we will continue to do this. We can’t wait to see you then and answer any questions you may have. We will send you dates for starting and days nearer the time when we have more of an understanding of return dates.
We will be adding lots of important information between now and September on this page and also on the Pupils Information page. This will show you what a typical day in Reception Class looks like and areas of the class. Please go through this with your child during the summer so that they are familiar with the setting and what will happen on their first day.
We are so excited to welcome you to Old Sarum Primary School and will keep you updated on any information that you need.
Please read through the Parents Induction Powerpoint that can be downloaded from the file list below.
We know getting out and about is hard at the moment but we found this poster with suggested things to do before your child turns 5. Lots of these ideas are lovely and adhere to social distancing rules.
Below are the EYFS early learning goals. This document outlines the expected level that your child will should reach by the end of their reception year. We have uploaded this and a selection of activities you can do with your child to help prepare them before they come to school. Please remember this point is a long way off and that we have put it here so you can see the things we will be teaching your child next year.
