Curriculum statements of Intent
Our intention is that every pupil is able to develop the personal qualities they will need to be successful and to demonstrate our core values of Trust, Care and Respect. We aim to develop aspirational learners who are curious, adept at solving problems and inspired to achieve their potential in order to reach ‘to the sky’.
Our curriculum supports all pupils to broaden their experiences to inspire their passions and skills. We will actively promote a love of learning, set high expectations and provide them with the knowledge and skills to work towards becoming independent, proactive learners.
Writing: Our writing curriculum inspires all children to become enthusiastic, creative writers who are confident in their own writing ability. Through exciting and engaging topics we aspire to develop skills and knowledge to write for a range of purposes and audiences.
History: At Old Sarum Primary, both staff and children pride ourselves on our local history. We are lucky enough that the history we teach is right on our doorstep. We aim to deliver a curriculum which harvests a love and interest of significant periods of time and people, whilst also delving deeper into the skills required to do this. We teach our lessons through enquiry based questioning which gives the children opportunities to become problem solvers. We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of history and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach “to the sky” regardless of barriers to learning.
Geography: We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of geography and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach ‘to the sky’, regardless of barriers to learning.
Science: We seek to develop aspirational learners who are enthusiastic about science and understand its influence on their lives. They are proactive about investigating their environment and the world in which they live. Children are encouraged to be curious investigators, to develop their own lines of enquiry and to learn through exploration and questioning. We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of science and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach “to the sky” regardless of barriers to learning.
Religious education: RE at Old Sarum Primary encourages children to be curious about and develop knowledge of principle world faiths. Our approach enables children to make their own choices and decisions concerning religion and beliefs. We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of RE and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach ‘to the sky’, regardless of barriers to learning.
PSHE: PSHE helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become active, responsible citizens. We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of PSHE and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach ‘to the sky’ regardless of the barriers to learning.
Music: Our music curriculum aims to broaden every child’s musical experience and supports a development of musical passions and skills. We aspire to encourage creativity and musicality for all learners.
Computing: At Old Sarum, we recognise that technology is widely used by children in daily life. Computing is a key enabler to provide children with the knowledge to become independent, proactive learners. Throughout their time at Old Sarum, children develop the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible and literate users of technology, helping to prepare them for an ever changing world. We aim to develop the children’s enjoyment of computing and inspire all to achieve their full potential in order to reach ‘to the sky’, regardless of barriers to learning.
MFL: Our languages curriculum aims to develop aspirational learners who are curious about the world in which they live. It provides opportunities to broaden a child’s experience and provides the foundation for learning future languages.
